"Save Our Students (S.O.S) Programme"

(Emergency Youth Mental Support Project)

 

Alerted to an alarming and increasing rate of young student suicides in Hong Kong including even elementary students, possibly also exacerbated by the difficulties related to the recent pandemic, major funders came together quickly to address this problem as an emergency community project. This project is under the auspices of psychiatrists from HK Mental Wellness Association and school social workers from the HK Social Workers Association and the HK Academy of Social Work. The funding will upscale the training of social workers to enhance abilities to identify students at-risk and vulnerable to anxiety and depression issues. Where appropriate, they will be referred for free counselling and treatment with psychiatrists. Hopefully, potential tragedies with young lives may be averted.
